Spirituality and Addiction

What is it?

This is an accredited online eight-week course that helps student understand what it means to be an agent of Christ-centered change to those in recovery, by understanding the nature of addiction, by learning the importance of faith in the recovery process, and by becoming an authority on linking clients to recovery support services and recovery communities. This course involves about 15-17 hours a week of student reading, live interactions and working on homework. Classwork must be done weekly and can be done any time of the week, except for Zoom meetings (dates listed in the course).

Why use it?

This course can help clients transition from perceiving themselves as a victim or an addict into that of someone called to be a “wounded healer.” This course can be helpful to clients, interns and staff that may be interested in becoming an addiction counselor. It can serve as a first step to becoming a licensed addiction counselor or getting a Bachelor’s degree in Addiction Counseling. In addiction counseling, we have had a 67% graduation rate (for matriculated students) and a 79% job placement rate (read student stories).

Who uses it?

City Vision University has had students from over 100 rescue missions. We have had hundreds of students in our Addiction Counseling program.

How do I get started and what does it cost?

We have found that the vast majority of clients in rescue mission programs or recent graduates qualify for Pell grants, which will cover the full cost of the course and may typically provide the students with $100-200 in additional income. Our regular tuition is $750/course, but this is discounted to $637.50/course for all rescue missions (or similar ministries). We discount to $500/course to organizations that send two or more paying students in a given year.
